Though ExpressPanel is not a CE Software product it does use the CEToolbox. In case you are not already familiar with the CEToolbox, the following documentation should help you understand its basic operation.
CEToolbox is another system extension. It’s a general-purpose utility that works with many programs from CE Software, not just QuicKeys. It adds their names to the Apple menu, handles their hot keys, and makes sure they work properly together. You can open CEToolbox using the CEToolbox Menu or the Options menu in the QuicKeys Editor. In either case, you get its dialog box.
Menu Configuration:
The buttons in the Menu Configuration section control the appearance of the QuicKeys menu. When you click one, the illustration to the right changes to show the results.
• Grouped - Gathers together QuicKeys and other CE Software commands and places them in the Apple Menu above the Desk Accessories.
• Hidden - Removes QuicKeys, CEToolbox, and all other commands for CE Software products from the Apple menu.
• Menu bar - Places the CEToolbox menu next to the Balloon Help menu.
• Sorted with DAs - Places QuicKeys and the other CE Software commands with the Desk Accessories in the Apple menu. All items appear in alphabetical order.
• Separated - Creates a “Tools” command in the Apple menu. Choose it to see a submenu for QuicKeys and the other CE Software tools.
Miscellaneous:
• Show Startup Icon - Displays the CEToolbox icon during the Macintosh startup process.
• Do Not Show CEToolbox Item - If selected, the CEToolbox item is not displayed in the Apple menu.
• Do Not Save Finder Windows - Abandons any moving or resizing changes when you choose the Restart or Shut Down commands in QuicKeys or DiskTop. To save the current state of the windows on the desktop, don’t click this checkbox.
• Do Not Change Default Folder When Launching - Determines the default setting for the Open File dialog box. If you click this checkbox, CEToolbox remembers the last folder or disk you opened and returns there the next time you choose Open. If you don’t click here, the Open command brings up the standard file dialog box displaying the location of the last opened application.
• Disable Hot Keys - Turns off the keystroke shortcuts for all programs that use CEToolbox, except QuicKeys.
• Configure International Launching - Substitutes non-English menu commands for standard items like “Open,” “Quit,” and so forth. Use this tool to make QuicKeys work with non-U.S. system software. When you click Configure International Launching, you get a table of menu commands in different languages.
If QuicKeys can’t find a command in a particular language, it looks through the table to find an equivalent. Column one defaults to English. Column two to the language matching the System Software Country Code (SSCC). This column is blank if the SSCC is zero (US). Use the pop-up menu at the top of a column to choose a particular language, the language matching the SSCC, or no language. You can also enter custom text in the field for a particular menu command. This action puts the title Custom in the menu above the column.
Pop-Up Configuration:
Finally, the Pop-Up Configuration options provide alternative access to CEToolbox menus. You can access the menus by pressing one or more modifier keys and clicking the mouse. Click the checkbox or boxes for the keys you want to use with the mouse.
